Looking inside the SPX Sectors
I have been tracking the 11 SPX sectors as it gives me a good idea of the overall market and of course about which sectors are doing well and which are not. However, the components (company stocks) that comprise these sectors are important to know as well.
So, here is the list of company stocks that actually make up the individual SPX sectors.
Some key observations:
Microsoft and Apple are 47% of the Technology sector. I also learned that these 2 stocks are 13% of the overall S&P 500. Certainly not a true reflection of the sector or the markets.
Meta and Alphabet are included in the Communications XLC sector and are 46% of the sector. The sector does have some interesting components that can make one do a bit of head scratching.
Even more head scratching is that Amazon and Tesla are included in the Consumer Discretionary XLY sector and is 40% of the sector.
